Mailbox lock help

Mailbox lock replacement in Atlanta, from single boxes to cluster mailboxes.

Mailbox locks are tiny, but a lost key or a jammed cam lock means your mail piles up or sits where anyone can grab it. Identity theft often starts at an unsecured mailbox. We replace and rekey mailbox locks across Atlanta: single house boxes, the cluster boxes in subdivisions, and the gang mailboxes in apartment and condo buildings.

Most mailbox lock jobs are quick. We come to you, open the box if needed, swap or rekey the lock, and cut new keys on site. If you are already getting your house rekeyed after a move, adding the mailbox takes only a few extra minutes.

When the post office is involved and when it is not

For curbside and cluster boxes (CBUs) that the USPS owns and controls, the post office handles the main panel and the outgoing slot. If you need access to those areas, your local post office branch is the contact.

For the individual tenant compartments inside a cluster box, most condo mailboxes, and any private mailbox you own or are responsible for, we can rekey or replace the lock directly and cut you new keys on site. When you call, describe the type of mailbox and we will confirm whether it is our job.

When DIY works and when it does not

Honest answer: if your mailbox already opens, you have the key, and you can identify the lock size, a cheap cam-lock kit from the hardware store will often do the job. We are not going to pretend otherwise.

Call a locksmith when the box is locked shut with no key, when it is a cluster or CBU compartment, when the lock is jammed, or when you cannot identify the replacement spec. Those are the jobs where a DIY attempt usually ends with a pried-open, ruined box that costs more to fix than the service call would have.

Change the mailbox lock after moving in

People remember to rekey the front door after buying a house but forget the mailbox. The previous resident may still have a working mailbox key, and a stolen piece of mail is all a thief needs to access a financial account.

Adding the mailbox to a move-in rekey visit is a cheap add-on. Mention it when you book and we handle it all in the same trip.

Call us for mailbox lock service when:

  • You lost your only mailbox key.
  • The lock is jammed and the box will not open.
  • You just moved in and want the old key dead.
  • A previous tenant or owner still has a working copy.
  • You manage a property and need multiple locks rekeyed.
  • The lock is worn out and needs replacing.

FAQ

Questions before you call.

These answers cover what we hear most. A quick call is still the fastest way to confirm the details for your exact situation.

I lost my only mailbox key. Can you help?

Yes. We open the box, then either cut a new key to the existing lock or replace the lock and give you fresh keys. Quick visit, small job.

Do you do cluster mailbox locks?

Yes, for the individual tenant compartments you are responsible for. Some curbside and cluster-box components are USPS-controlled, and we will tell you if yours is one of those.

Can you rekey a mailbox instead of replacing it?

Often the simplest path is swapping the small cam lock, but where rekeying makes sense we can. Either way you walk away with working keys.

Should I change the mailbox lock after moving in?

Yes. The previous resident may still have a working key. It is a cheap add-on when we are already rekeying your house locks and it closes a real identity-theft gap.
