Lock installation help

Residential lock installation in Atlanta, fitted and keyed right from the start.

This is the page for hardware replacement: swapping out builder-grade knobs and levers, fitting a brand-new door with its first lockset, replacing a lock that is too worn to repair, or servicing the mortise locks built into many older Atlanta homes. We install the full range of residential hardware, from basic knob sets to full handlesets, and we fit each piece so it operates smoothly from day one instead of loosening up and sticking within a year.

If you have already bought your hardware, we install it. If you need a recommendation, we carry quality options and will steer you toward what fits the door, the traffic, and your budget, without pushing the priciest thing in the van.

The install matters as much as the hardware

A good lock hung badly is a bad lock. If the bore is off-center, the bolt does not throw fully, or the strike is misaligned, the lock will bind, wear faster, and ultimately fail sooner than it should. We take the extra minutes to get the alignment right so the hardware performs the way it was designed to.

For new doors with no existing holes, we bore cleanly for the lockset and deadbolt and fit them to the frame so the door operates smoothly from day one. On older doors we check the existing cutouts and adjust anything that is out of spec before installing new hardware.

New locks matched to your existing hardware

When we install new hardware we match it to what you are keeping. New locks can be set to work with your existing keys, and when we install several at once we can key them alike so the key ring stays simple. It is a practical install note, not an upsell: matching is usually included in the install price.

Just mention it when you call and we will set it up before we leave, with every lock tested against the key you walk away with.

Call us to install locks when:

  • You have a new door that needs hardware.
  • Builder-grade knobs and locks need replacing.
  • You want all exterior doors on one key.
  • A lock is so worn that repair no longer makes sense.
  • You are installing a new deadbolt on a door that has none.
  • You need a mortise lock for an older Atlanta home.

What we install

How it works

Every lock tested and keyed alike before we leave.

We bore cleanly when needed, fit the hardware, and anchor reinforced strikes into the stud. At the end, all your exterior doors run on a single key and every bolt is tested so nothing is left loose.

Cost and options

What lock installation costs in Atlanta.

Install pricing depends on the lock type and how many doors you need done. A basic knob or lever install is quick. A deadbolt on a door with no existing hole takes a little longer because we bore the door. Smart locks take the most time because setup and code programming are part of the job.

Hardware cost is separate unless we supply it. We quote both on the phone once you tell us what you need. The final price is confirmed before we start any work.

Service Starting price
Knob or lever install Starting at $65
Deadbolt install (with existing hole) Starting at $75
Bore new door for deadbolt Starting at $50 add-on
Smart lock install and setup Starting at $100
Keyed alike across multiple doors From $20 per lock add-on

Final price confirmed before work starts. Hardware supplied by us or by you, both options work.

FAQ

Questions before you call.

These answers cover what we hear most. A quick call is still the fastest way to confirm the details for your exact situation.

Can you key all my new locks to one key?

Yes. As long as the locks are compatible, we key them alike so one key opens every exterior door, and we can match new deadbolts to locks you are keeping.

Should I buy the locks or do you supply them?

Either works. We can bring quality hardware suited to your door, or install locks you already bought. If something you bought will not hold up, we will tell you before installing it.

What grade of lock do I need?

Grade 1 for busy exterior doors, Grade 2 for solid value, and simpler hardware indoors. We match the grade to where the lock lives and how hard it gets used.

Can you install locks on a brand-new door with no holes?

Yes. We bore new doors cleanly for the lockset and deadbolt and align everything to the frame so it works smoothly from day one.

Can you install or replace a mortise lock?

Yes. Mortise locks are common in older Atlanta homes, especially in neighborhoods like Inman Park, Grant Park, and Druid Hills, and most hardware stores will not touch them. We repair, replace, and retrofit mortise hardware while keeping the look of the original door.

How long does a typical lock install take?

A knob or deadbolt swap on a prepared door takes 15 to 30 minutes per lock. Boring a new door, aligning a tricky frame, or installing a smart lock with full setup takes longer, and we will tell you when you call.
