Panic bar help

Panic bar installation and repair in Atlanta, code-compliant and inspection-ready.

Panic bars, also called exit devices, let people exit a building fast by simply pushing. No turning a knob, no fumbling a key. They are required by fire and building code on many commercial and assembly-use doors, and a failed inspection can stop you from opening. We install, repair, and replace exit hardware across Atlanta so your egress doors free-exit the way the code demands.

Exit devices take hard use. They get pushed hundreds of times a day, propped open, and kicked. When one starts to drag, rattle, or fail to latch, fix it before an inspector flags it or it fails on a busy night. We service and adjust existing hardware as well as install new, and we will tell you honestly whether a repair or a replacement makes more sense.

Free exit, controlled entry: getting both right

The most common setup for commercial exit devices: the bar always lets people out, while the outside trim stays locked, keyed, or runs on access control. People inside must always be able to get out instantly, but you do not want anyone walking in off the street from the alley.

Done right, it is safe and secure at the same time. Done wrong, you either fail inspection on the egress side or leave the back door open to anyone who finds the outside trim. Pairing the bar with high-security locks on the outside trim is a common setup for back doors. We set it up correctly the first time.

Fire-rated doors need fire-rated hardware

On fire-rated door assemblies, every piece of hardware must maintain the fire rating. A non-rated exit device on a fire-rated door can void the door assembly rating and create a code violation.

Panic hardware requirements fall under IBC Section 1010 and NFPA 101. We install matching fire-rated exit hardware on fire-rated assemblies to those standards, so the rating and the egress code are both satisfied, and we can advise on what your occupancy class requires. We will check your current doors and tell you if anything needs to be upgraded.

Call us for panic bar service when:

  • A bar is dragging, sticking, or not latching.
  • You are opening a new business and need code-compliant exit hardware.
  • A fire inspector flagged your exit devices.
  • The outside trim needs to be locked or put on access control.
  • A fire-rated door needs matching rated hardware.
  • Your double door needs vertical rod devices that are failing.

What we install and repair

Exit device types for every commercial door.

Different door types require different exit devices. Tell us the door and we will bring the right hardware.

Silver push-bar rim exit device mounted on a commercial storefront door

Rim exit devices

The standard push-bar hardware on most single storefront and commercial doors. Reliable and widely code-accepted.

Panic bar vertical rod exit device on a double commercial door showing top and bottom rods

Vertical rod devices

For double doors where both the top and bottom of the door need to latch. Top and bottom bolts activated by the bar.

Heavy-duty mortise exit device panic bar on a commercial steel door

Mortise exit devices

Heavier-duty hardware for high-use commercial doors with mortise-lock preparations in the door edge.

How it works

Exit device that opens every time it should.

We confirm whether repair or full replacement is needed before quoting. The job ends with a live egress test so you know the bar releases cleanly and the outside trim is set the way your building requires.

FAQ

Questions before you call.

These answers cover what we hear most. A quick call is still the fastest way to confirm the details for your exact situation.

Are panic bars required for my business?

It depends on occupancy type and door load. Assembly spaces, many retail and restaurant doors, and high-occupancy buildings typically require them. We can assess your doors and tell you what code calls for.

Can a panic bar door still be locked from outside?

Yes, and that is the usual setup. The bar always lets people out, while the outside trim stays locked, keyed, or on access control so no one walks in. Free exit, controlled entry.

My panic bar sticks. Repair or replace?

Often a repair or adjustment fixes a sticking or sagging bar. If the device is worn out or out of code, replacement is the move. We will tell you honestly which it is.

Do you install fire-rated exit devices?

Yes. On fire-rated door assemblies we install matching fire-rated exit hardware so the rating and the egress code are both satisfied.
